Abstract

The results of the study of master’s programs in the field of training “library and information activities” are presented, their shortcomings in terms of the formation of book-related bibliological competencies are revealed. A new formulation of the object of book studies has been put forward, reflecting its modern essence “author – writing – text – reading – reader”, according to which the structure of the master’s textbook is proposed. The problems of historiography, scientific method and methodology of bibliological research are analyzed. The medialogical approach in the broad context of humanitarian discourse as the main one in the preparation of the textbook is considered.

Abstract

The problems of book distribution are less developed in comparison with other branches of book business. In most works, book distribution was not the subject of an independent comprehensive study, but was considered in generalizing works as an element of book business, book culture, book business of a particular region in different historical periods, or its individual aspects were the subject of study. Based on chronological and conceptual approaches, the article summarizes historiographical information on the main aspects of the functioning of channels for the sale of printed products in the Siberian-Far Eastern region in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods. The article describes the historiography of the problem within the framework of encyclopedic, scientific and educational publications; characterizes the contribution of individual book scholars to the development of problems; summarizes the aspect studies of book distribution; describes regional historical and book studies. The purpose of the article is to analyze the available historiographical array on the problem, the tasks are to determine the directions of research that have become traditional; to identify the least studied issues for their further study. The relevance and importance of the conducted historiographical analysis are determined, on the one hand, by the insufficient theoretical elaboration of the topic, the lack of fundamental research, in general, the importance of a comprehensive generalization and analysis of disparate and fragmentary general and applied research and materials; on the other hand, the need to identify patterns and features, problems and trends in the development of book distribution, due to its important role in the promotion of the book and reading, in the development of infrastructure for reading the region and the country as a whole. The author comes to the conclusion that despite the large number of publications, they do not form a holistic view on the book distribution in the region as an important part of the book business and an element of the infrastructure for reading

Abstract

The dissemination of scientific knowledge is one of the urgent social tasks today. As part of the interaction between science and society, representatives of the scientific environment create information content, the dissemination of which becomes the task of social institutions, including libraries. The article deeply analyzes part of the results of a survey of readers of public libraries concerning the possibility of the latter’s participation in the communication of science and society in any possible form. The material for the study was a questionnaire survey on the attitude of readers of public libraries to science, conducted in March – April 2022 within the framework of the research project “The current state and trends in the development of communications between Russian science and society”. The opinion of readers of Novosibirsk public libraries is studied, concerning priority ways of obtaining information about scientific achievements, attending popular scientific events and opportunities for access to modern scientific knowledge through the library, while considerable attention is paid to mass events as a form of interaction of communicators in the field of science with society. The following conclusions were made in the study: readers of public libraries are loyal to the potential of libraries for the development of communication between science and society; for them, the library as a means of obtaining information is second after Internet in importance; the library can be considered as one of the platforms for visiting popular science events, and its efforts to strengthen communication links between science and society. They should be aimed at more active cooperation with representatives of the scientific world.

Abstract

The article presents the results of studying the collection of rare books and manuscripts of the library of the Yekaterinburg Theological Seminary. The characteristics of the collection and the history of its formation are given. The collection was based on the book fund of the Sverdlovsk Diocesan Administration and books from private donations. The collection of handwritten books includes four copies of the XVI century: the Ostrog Bible and three editions of Andronik Timofeyev Ignorant – Apostle in 1597 and two Octoechos (2nd part) in 1594. There are more than forty editions of the XVII century in the fund: mainly of the Moscow Printing Yard and three “Lithuanian” ones – the “disgraced” teaching Gospel by Cyril Tranquillion, 1619; Synopsis by Innokenty Gizel, 1680; Oktoikh of the second half of the XVII century. The earliest manuscript is the Gospel of 1630-1660, compiled in Galicia, with numerous notes of the owner. The XVIII century is mainly represented by Old Believers’ liturgical and reading (“chetyi”) collections of mixed composition. Collections with canons, akathists, and liturgical charters predominate among the manuscripts of the XIX century. Orthodox written tradition of the XIX–XX centuries is represented by educational literature and musical scores. The result of the research will be the preparation of catalogues of handwritten books of the XVII–XX centuries and books of the old printing of the XVI–XVII centuries from the library collection.

Abstract

The influence of Confucian ideas on intellectual life in Russia of the XVIII century has not been studied enough and needs more detailed research. This paper is about the research of text “Description of life of Confucius, head of Chinese philosophers”. The purpose of the article is to identify the background of its creation, analyze the translation of this text and establish its connection with the ideas of the Enlightenment era. It was revealed that the “Description of the Life of Confucius ...” is a collection of fragments from the texts of “Lun yu” and “Zhong Yun” of the Confucian “Four books”, the Latin translation of which was placed in “Confucius Sinarum philosophus, sive Scientia Sinensis” (“Confucius, the philosopher of the Chinese, or Chinese science”) – work, in which, for the first time, traditional Chinese philosophical teachings are systematized. The nature of the fragments, the principle of their grouping by chapters, as well as the topics of the chapters indicate that “The Description of the life of Confucius ...” could act as a lesson to young people preparing for public service. Such an appointment of the “Description of the life of Confucius ...” seems most likely, if we also take into account the tendency that took place in the intellectual environment of the XVIII century to compile manuals on the education of young people corresponding to the ideals of Enlightenment.

Abstract

The scientific study of the Arctic is a geographically determined area of multi- and interdisciplinary research, the analysis of the development of which at the global and national levels is of interest for bibliometric analytics. The basis for such an analysis can be information about the scientific knowledge produced in the world, which is accumulated by bibliographic databases (DBs) of different levels. The aim of this article is to give a comparative assessment of the degree of coverage of the Arctic topics in three well-known DBs: Web of Science Core Collection, Google Scholar and VINITI RAS; perform a bibliometric review of Arctic research (in the world and in Russia) using the global polythematic DB Web of Science Core Collection and the domestic DB VINITI RAS. Based on a specially formed sample of publications indexed in the DB Web of Science Core Collection for the period 1980-2020, the scale of production of scientific knowledge about the Arctic, the contribution of the most significant countries participating in research, including Russia, are estimated; a high degree of international scientific cooperation is shown. The Top 10 most productive Russian cities in the study of the Arctic have been identified, the publication contribution of Siberian scientists, who have significantly increased their activity since 2014, has been evaluated. With the help of the DB VINITI RAS, which has a greater coverage of Russian publications, the subjects of works related to the study of the Siberian region of the Arctic are characterized. In particular, it is shown that most of them over the past three years have been aimed at problems of geology, solving problems of economics and energy.

Abstract

In the past few decades, scientific communication has become widespread through academic social networks (ASNs). The purpose of this article is to consider ASNs both as a research tool and as an object of study in scientific publications. The scientometric analysis of literature on ASNs was carried out. The literature set consisted of 1,216 records retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) database. The set included the documents where the ASNs were the scientific research objects or those where the ASNs were only mentioned as a bibliographic data source for systematic reviews or meta-analyses (predominantly in medicine) or as an experimental data repository. It was found that documents on ASNs started to appear in the WoS after 2005. The USA, the University of Wolverhampton (United Kingdom), and M. Thelwall are the country, organization, and author leading in the number of documents on ASNs in the set. The journals published the documents presented by the following subject areas: Computer Science; Computer Science and Librarianship; Mechanical Engineering; Engineering and Technology. Four out of the first ten highly cited documents are devoted to altmetrics in ASNs. The authors used document co-citation analysis via free scientometric analytical software CiteSpace and discovered research fronts. It was found that when the number of publications on ASNs started to rise, scholars began to discuss the community recommendation, professional indexing/folksonomy, and cold-start problem. Later, the altmetrics used in the ASNs became the main subject in the researches of ASNs. The last statement is confirmed by co-word analysis via CiteSpace. It is shown that the most frequent keywords of the studied document set are altmetrics, impact, and citation.

Abstract

The sociocultural aspect of modern national book publishing is associated with the changing role of the book in society. A study of the development of a children’s book in Udmurtia in 1847–2010, an analysis of its repertoire, which includes more than 3,000 bibliographic entries, showed from various aspects that in the period under review, a children’s book develops very unevenly. No one has studied the trends in the genesis of serial publications for children in Udmurtia. An analysis of this problem will help to identify the direction of the publishing repertoire, the target and readership of a children’s book in different periods of its development, as well as enrich knowledge on the history of the region’s books, and increase interest in the national and domestic culture of the republic.
The purpose of this article is to study the trends in the development of book series for children and youth of the Udmurt Republic throughout its historical existence in the 19th – early 21st centuries.
The study of the repertoire of children’s books in Udmurtia, as a fundamental basis for the study of the cultural development of the people over a large historical period, made it possible to identify 80 series addressed to children of all ages, from preschool to high school students. We have considered all publications included in a certain series; its target and readership; the number of series in each historical period of time, the number of publications and the total circulation included in a certain series are determined; the origins of the series in a certain historical period are traced within the framework of the events that took place at that time and appropriate conclusions are drawn. The practical significance of such a study lies in the fact that it allows a comprehensive study of the process of regional and national book publishing in Udmurtia, taking into account the experience of the past and improving the publishing repertoire of the present.
