The article analyzes the current trends of regional bookselling business: specialization, diversification, multiformation.

The article characterizes literary-artistic and socio-political Siberian journals in 1920–1930, their classification is proposed, the reasons affecting the duration of the release of printed publications are identified.

New technologies and net services developed and implemented by the Library for Natural Sciences of RAS (LNS RAS) are considered. They are based on new approaches to information and library processes. Among them are the network technology for centralize acquisition; scanning acquired book titles, abstracts and contents and including their images in OPAC, forming virtual book exhibitions etc. Attention is paid to the main directions of research and services development in academic institutions’ libraries, managed by LNS RAS.

The publication deals with the preconditions and historical aspects of preparing UDC in the Ukrainian language. The analysis of this classification structure is carried out as well as its structural features are revealed. The main development trends of constructing the decimal classification principle in terms of UDC in Ukrainian are considered. Conclusions on the meaning and influence of UDC on up-to-date systematization practice are made.

The paper considers possible model of the search in catalogs of modern libraries. The model is based on the analysis of the results of experimental search, which used as search terms the variants of the name Chajkovskij as it is represented in the languages with Latin alphabet - English, French and German. It is shown that the catalogs of these libraries have an instrument, which allows getting results independent of variants of names representation. This instrument could be built according to the model suggested. In addition, we have touched some questions of representation of personal names in various languages, which is of certain importance in the theory and practice of information search.
