The article discusses problems related to the Polish retrospective national bibliography formation. A brief historical overview of the issue is presented based on the Polish bibliography main work - «Bibliografia Estreichera». The definition of Polonica functioning in the modern library practice in Polan is given, as well as guidelines of materials selection for the national bibliography. It shows the difficulties with existing principles of referring works to Polonica evidently for publications of XVI-XVIII centuries, while explaining its individual criteria such as territorial, national, thematic and language ones.

The article represents main approaches to definition of the concept «Rossica» at the Russian bibliography and bibliology based on the domestic publications analysis of two last decades. The term ambiguity related to its national or thematic segments is noted. The attention is paid to using Rossica materials in historical researches, as well as prospects of studying this category of editions.

The article presents main directions of work with old books in a specialized department of a scientific library (collection characteristics, acquisition, processing, studying). The perspective forms of activity with early printed books and old manuscripts are described at the present stage.

The article reviews books of the Polish origin existing in the collection of the European old printed editions of the XV - early XX centuries of the Department of rare books and manuscripts of the State Public Scientific-Technological Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The attention is paid to peculiar features of editions and provenances of revealed copies.

The article first represents results of the quantitative analysis of the Russian XIX century editions stored in the collection of the University Library in Warsaw. The research objective is to check the view, settled in bibliology, regarding it as the owner of one of the largest collections of the Russian books and magazines outside Russia. Calculations were carried out with the library card catalogs - the Chief alphabetical one and the Catalog of periodicals.

The article presents the general state characteristics of the illegal electronic content market. Particular attention is paid to the terminological analysis of concept «piracy». It marks problems of electronic book publishing and statistics development; examines the views evolution of publishing communities and authorities in relation to this phenomenon. The author reveals some aspects of interacting publishers and pirates.

The article represents major issues of academic subject «Libraries architecture and design» at the library-information faculty of Saint-Petersburg State Institute of Culture. Authors examine the course evolution, present its scientific and educational base (dissertations, monographs, textbooks, etc.). Goals and objectives of the discipline are identified. The represented structure of the discipline contains the following sections: 1. Introduction to architecture. Theoretical bases of architectural design; 2. Architecture and planning of library buildings. 3. Functional division of libraries’ rooms; 4. Library interiors; 5. Design of library iconic-information systems. Students are familiarized with basic terminology and theoretical approaches of architectural design in the training process. Architectural features of libraries’ buildings, main architectural styles, professional biographies of eminent architects are examined in the course. Practical trainings include developing a library building draft. The libraries’ interior design is carried out in 3D-models and compact layouts on physical media. The educational process is organized in close cooperation with professionals in the field of architecture, particularly with the leading teachers of the Department of the Interior and Equipment of St.-Petersburg State Art-Industrial Academy. They provide methodical assistance and scientific advice, thus the course get the necessary format of teaching and the complexity level of formed competencies, which is available for non-architect students taking into account their existing knowledge, skills and abilities.

Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) is considered as a tool to ensure the usefulness and attractiveness of libraries for users. Modern approaches to make a search in OPAC effective and convenient, to satisfy the requirements and expectations of readers are characterized. The views of researchers and practitioners in this regard are compared.

A cultural approach is widely used in the library science and can be productive for revealing parameters of the library collection quality as a cultural phenomenon. The analysis of scientific publications shows that requirements to the library collection are derived from its culture-saving, classifying, modeling, communicative-educational and culture-creating functions, as well as its protective role in the society. In terms of culture the main task of the total library holdings is true and sufficiently complete reflection of the culture as a whole system, including not only the knowledge, values, the human spirit best achievements, but also the diversity of cultural forms, phenomena, languages of culture in their complicated and heterogeneous relationships. A significant part of the library collection qualitative characteristics is requirements of adequate documents selection to a level of difficulty and novelty with respect to engaging users different groups in the culture semiotic system, comfort, timeliness and forms variety of access to documents from the collection to introduce citizens to cultural achievements.

The article describes organization of the University Libraries Methodic Association (MA) activity in Krasnoyarsk, the importance of professional units and their interaction with public organizations and associations. The article highlights sections work, the role of libraries entering MA, development tendencies, library - university interaction, libraries participation in the educational process. The authors exemplify such participation, prospects of further professional contacts and cooperation. The article draws a conclusion on the role of methodic centers for the unversity libraries development.

The article deals with the problem of reading in a modern society, suggests ways of its solution evidently for the youth reading audience. The concept of an art-linguistic competence as a component of reading culture is substantiated. The esthetic potential of a literary text for the youth is considered as a mean of developing such competence. The authors propose the problem specific solutions in a process of the research program realization.

The article considers subject indexing of local history documents with the technological approach point of view. It gives characteristics of each element component structure of the technological process of local lore documents subject indexing in Kemerovo Regional Scientific Library named after V. D. Fyodorov.

The article represents results of diachronic studying the historical and political vocabulary with Google System Books Ngram Viewer. The authors investigate changes in use frequency of political figures names during 1920-2000. The study results demonstrate the relationship between changes in the frequency use of names in printed documents texts with historical events and political traditions of different countries. Some limitations of the system were also considered.

The article describes main directions of the national library terminology development. The first one is an active use of foreign, mainly Anglo-American concepts and terms. Among the approaches to this issue stand out: introducing new terms, which are absent in the Russian language; using foreign terms to clarify existing Russian ones; replacing Russian words with foreign calques. The second direction is application of various science concepts and terms in the library science. Its characteristic feature is the reliance on theoretical philosophical ideas and concepts. The author discusses such philosophical notions as «environment» and «space», and their adaptation to the library science, shows the difference of such terms as «space of library» and «library space», «inner and outer library spaces».
