Abstract

The article is dedicated to the early adaptation and development of the medical and pharmaceutical measurements system in traditional Mongolian medicine as shown in the example of the treatise “Khan Treasury” – about methods of treatment”. This work is a little-known translation into the classic Mongolian language of one of the oldest Tibetan medical treatises “GyalpoKorzo”, that belongs to the medical tradition of the Sakyapa school (11th century). The purpose of this study is to reveal the traditional medicine features of Mongolian peoples’ metric system on the example of the said work. The authors use a comparative historical method and historical-lexical analysis. The medical metric terminology available in the Mongolian text of the “Khan Treasury” was identified and systematized, the origin of the measurement units used in it, was determined. The scientific novelty is that new data have been obtained on the adaptation by Mongolians of the complex system of knowledge accumulated in traditional medical systems. It is shown that the studied lexical layer reflects economic and living conditions of nomads, features of cultural ties in East and Central Asia. The example of measurement terminology shows that Mongolians, while adapting and mastering Buddhist knowledge, apart from directly borrowing new categories and concepts, tried to rethink them in the realities of their own culture. Text and analytical materials of medical treatise “Khan Treasury” – about methods of treatment” are housed in the diachronic corpus of the old Mongolian language and will serve as the basis for the creation of a machine translation system based on artificial intelligence technologies (“deep learning”).

Abstract

The article considers functions of a monograph within the scholarly communication. They are studied via document that may have perceptive, nominative, informative, signative, sintactive, temporal, pragmatic and material (physical) elements. The corresponding functions are selected for each one. The internal functional orientation of a monograph is determined by the peculiarity of scientific information and its presentation to the reader. Therefore, one of the main element of the “scholarly monograph” system is its informational component. Its external functions (informational, memorial, legal, social, communicative) are manifested under the impact of external factors on the elements of the monograph system. The impact of the elements of the system on each other is manifested through internal functions: generalizing (synthetic, integrative), cumulative, historical, critical, epistemological, explanatory, etc. However, the external functions (informational and communicative) have the most noticeable impact on all elements of the system. Therefore they should be considered as the leading functions. These functions in a monograph manifest themselves in a specific significant way at the integrative stage of the development of scientific research.

Abstract

The article presents the results of compiling the External Electronic Resources directory based on the online platform “Web-office of a Scientist” (http://i.uran.ru/webcab/) of the Central Scientific Library of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The directory includes electronic libraries and collections, repositories, and journal platforms on the research subjects of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. To select resources data from the universal repository registration system called Directory of Open Access Repositories (OpenDOAR) as well as scientific organizations’ websites in Russian Federation and abroad were used. The External Electronic Resources Directory contains 130 information sources on humanities, medicine, biology, physics, engineering science, chemistry, economics, mathematics, mechanics, computer science, agriculture, and Earth sciences. These information sources provide access to full-text documents, as well as multimedia and audiovisual materials, bibliographic and research data in English, Russian, French, German, Czech, Polish, Latin, and other languages. The search engine of the directory gives an opportunity to select electronic resource by tytle, link, country, subject, type, and a substring of the given resource description. There is a possibility of statistical accounting of queries to electronic resources from the Directory page on the online platform “Web-office of a Scientist”. The directory has practical importance for the research support and information servicing of scientists of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The use analysis of this Directory will be beneficial for the development of a search methodology as well as technologies to provide the scientific library with remote electronic resources.

Abstract

The introduction of the project approach as a tool for the development of cultural and educational activities of university libraries is an urgent topic against the background of trends of increasing public and scientific attention to the “third mission” of the university as a cultural center of the region. The problem lies in the fact that libraries of higher educational institutions as scientific libraries pay priority attention to the promotion of research activities and the educational process at the university, and the potential of project cultural and educational activities in comparison with public libraries is not fully used. The purpose of the article is to summarize the experience of implementing cultural and educational projects in the university library.
The experience of the Fundamental Library of Tambov State University named after G.R. Derzhavin shows that the use of the project approach allows you to gradually concentrate efforts on the implementation of socially significant cultural initiatives, and, following the ideology of the “entrepreneurial university”, to receive additional financial support for projects through participation in grant competitions. As conditions for the successful implementation of cultural and educational projects, the involvement of specialized departments as internal partners and the formation of creative competencies among library staff are highlighted.

Abstract

The emergence of new forms of library and information services, the expansion of their range, the simultaneous provision of secondary and primary information, the reduction of the time frames for fulfilling a user’s request – these and other trends have affected the functioning of bibliographic electronic resources (BER). The purpose of the article is to identify factors influencing the development of BER in a modern university of culture, increasing the efficiency of their provision. The results of the study “Bibliographic resources of the modern library of the university of culture: state and development prospects” formed its basis. In total, 18 libraries of federal state budgetary educational institutions of higher education were studied. The analysis showed that the main components of improving the process of providing bibliographic electronic resources in the conditions of a modern university can be the following: the existence of a library development strategy; bibliographic electronic resources monitoring; organization and updating the reference and search apparatus; improving remote access to BER; resource integration; efficient use of automated library and information systems; filling the library site; service orientation and personalization of service; forming the information culture of the user and improvement of the professional level of library specialists. Abstract

The concept of open science, which is becoming more widespread, actualizes the problems of access to educational content. Scientific libraries, in their turn, face a number of challenges involving the operation with open educational resources. The purpose of the study was to generalize the main trends of this kind of work carried out by libraries of foreign educational institutions, the material was the data presented in scientific publications in 2012–2021. The content analysis of 70 articles made it possible to identify the following areas in the work of foreign academic libraries with open educational resources: the support of the educational process; a study of awareness on resources and interest in them in the students’ and professors’ environment; open educational resources assessment by users; promotion, as well as barriers to the use and development of open educational resources.
