Abstract

The relevance of the practical application of the theory of generations by N. Howe and W. Strauss in the context of digitalization is revealed. The purpose of the article is to analyze the capabilities of electronic library systems as didactic tools designed to promote the development of the cognitive abilities of the digital generation. The results of the study conducted at the Center for Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies of the Moscow State Institute of Culture are presented. The emergence of electronic library systems is characterized as a reaction to the redundancy and unreliability of information in the Internet environment. The phenomenon of the digital generation is analyzed, the maturation and socialization of which occur under the rapid penetration of digital technologies into all spheres of life of a modern person: leisure, everyday life, study, work. Representatives of this digital generation are integrated into digital society from their birth, so they have views, attitudes and values that differ from the worldview of older generations. The distinctive features and problems of developing the cognitive abilities of Z generation are considered. The results of the study of electronic educational systems “Urayt”, “Lan”, “Rukont”, “University Library Online”, “IPR Smart” are presented from the perspective of digital didactics. Violations of the didactic principles of systematic, scientific character, and clarity are identified. Recommendations are formulated for teachers and librarians on the specifics of working with Z generation.

Abstract

The development of digital technologies, which provide unprecedented growth in labor productivity, leads to the depreciation of material goods, resulting in the loss of habitual life guidelines for an ever-expanding share of the planet’s population. The purpose of the article is to determine the directions for transforming the activities of a public library, basing on the analysis of the current needs of residents of highly developed countries. Public library, in the author opinion, should become a place where each user will have the opportunity to come to a deep understanding of their own existence, discover talents and gain a stable life position through integration into intellectual and creative activity. The idea of mandatory gradualism – “step-by-step” nature of this process is drawn from the creative heritage of N. A. Rubakin and A. A. Pokrovsky, who developed and put into practice the “theory of bridges” – an approach to the work of libraries that involved the gradual development of reading taste, ultimately aimed at the development of a harmonious personality. The author comes to the conclusion that the current task of libraries is to build bridges from primitive forms of creative activity to more and more meaningful and complicated one with the ultimate goal of leading each user to independent conscious creativity that helps to demonstrate all person’s abilities. As an example, the author provides the list of library services designed to work with segments of the teenage audience identified on the basis of “lifestyle,” which will allow them to unlock the potential of young users and help them to achieve intellectual and creative self-realization.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to theoretically and practically substantiate the need to introduce an online news information system into library practice as part of the information support of scientific activities (on the example of Open Science). The work theoretically substantiates that improving the news information system in libraries is necessary in connection with the development of technology, open science, library activities and the rapid growth of disparate sources of information. The experience analysis of 130 libraries in presenting various news information products has led to the conclusion that the implementation of news information requires appropriate technology that would allow us to model the sequence of processes and operations for generating news library and information products.
As a result the model of a news information system on open science is developed, which allows searching, collecting, processing, and synthesizing news information on open science, as well as creating, posting and distributing information products, their qualitative and quantitative assessment of effectiveness to be made. It has been implemented on the web platform of the State Public Library for Science and Technology of the Siberian Branch of RAS “Library for Open Science” in January 2023 and demonstrates a gradual increase in the number of all web analytical indicators of news information products created on its basis.

Abstract

Social networks are one of the platforms for posting official content and interacting with users, as well as providing remote access to information resources. The purpose of analyzing the content of communities in the VKontakte social network of the Oryol regional libraries (public, children’s and special) was to identify the structure and typology of communities, their characteristic features, and types of labels. The reason for choosing the accounts of regional libraries as the object of research was the social function they perform: regional libraries are the flagships of the development of the library system of a certain territory. The popularity of publications in communities was measured using the Engagement Rate coefficient. A direct correlation has been revealed between the type of publication and its popularity: the more popular the publication, the more publications of this type are posted in the community. For more effective functioning of library communities, it is necessary to develop a content plan that is based on the theory of management and marketing of social networks.

Abstract

Open science is becoming one of the modern trends and a permanent object of study, including awareness and attitude of scientists from different countries, involvement of subject areas and individual scientific institutions. The purpose of the study is to investigate the attitude of users engaged in research activities in institutions of higher professional education, research organizations and manufacturing enterprises, united in the world-class West Siberian Interregional Scientific and Educational Center, to open science. When composing the questionnaire consisting of 38 questions, a comprehensive approach to the study of the problem was used, The questionnaire has six sections that reflect the most important aspects necessary to study the attitude of researchers to open scientific publications and their awareness of this issue. The survey involves 563 respondents whose research interests are related to various subject areas. The survey revealed their attitudes towards open access publishing of research results, their knowledge of open access resources, open science communications and data sharing principles, as well as emerging issues and concerns about open access initiatives. The study is practically important for the development of recommendations for forming information culture of users from higher education institutions in the field of open science. It is also important for the development of new directions in the activities of university libraries, and in this regard to that of methodology for the basis of training programs for library professionals in the framework of additional and professional education.

Abstract

The concept of “book culture”, which entered the domestic book-study discourse in the 1980s, is currently one of the central ones for both historical-book and theoretical-book studies. However, it has not yet received a conventional definition in Russian science. The purpose of the article is to formulate a definition of book culture based on the interpretative theory of culture and theoretical and methodological achievements of medialogy dominating in modern socio-humanitarian knowledge. The authors show the general theoretical context of the formation of the concept of “book culture”. The necessity of a pragmatic turn in theoretical book studies is substantiated. The possibilities of theoretical models of the media researcher G.M. McLuhan and the historian of the printed book R. Darnton for the interpretation of the concept of “book culture” are revealed. The author offers his own definition of book culture as a space of communication between various social actors, mediated by materialized texts broadcasting socially significant information.

Abstract

The poster session has become one of the types of professional events (congresses, conferences, seminars, etc.). Despite the long-term discussions about the poster as an effective tool in the scholarly communication and its comparison with the abstract it has not studied as a product of analytical and synthetic information processing. The purpose of this article is to consider theoretical questions about the poster as an information product. The traditional structure of the poster is similar to the structure of a research article (introduction, methods, results, discussion) with the only difference – the poster presents these elements in compressed form, as well as in an abstract. The article gives a comparative analysis of the poster and abstract. It shows that such features of the abstract as information content, high semantic capacity, accurate reflection of the main actual information and conclusions, etc., are characteristic of posters as well. It concludes that summarizing the results of the analytical and synthetic processing of information in the poster allows its considering as one of the types of information products and libraries can include posters in the list of their information products/services. In order to create posters, such skills as compression of information, data visualization, communicative skills, research skills and critical thinking, as well as mastering technical tools, which are in demand in the market today and are reflected in the professional standard “Specialist in Library and Information Activities”. Their development can be made by poster technology, which is already lately implemented at the Library and Information Department of the St. Petersburg State Institute of Culture.

Abstract

The relevance of the study is related to the need to assess the level of development of scientific knowledge and the degree of development of individual scientific problems in the field of agricultural economics. The purpose of this work is to study the dynamics of the number of publications in the field of agricultural economics in Russia and highlight their main topics. The main research method is content analysis within the bibliometric research. The results indicate great attention of scientists to various aspects of agricultural economics. However, from 2019 to 2023, the number of publications devoted to agricultural economics decreases. During the period under review, researchers pay the greatest attention to the following topics: “Accounting and analysis of economic activities”, “Financing and lending. Investments”. As the content analysis has shown, a significant number of publications are devoted to the problems of ensuring food security and sustainable development; innovative technologies, including digital ones; development of rural areas; issues related to government support and government regulation, productivity, competitiveness, small business, organic agriculture, investment, efficiency and agricultural management. At the same time, there is a relatively small number of publications devoted to pricing and labor resources, despite the relevance of these topics. In some years, there is a sharp increase in the number of publications on some topics. Thus, in 2019, the attention of researchers was as attracted by the topic of accounts payable and receivable, in 2020–2022 – programs for the development and support of agriculture, in 2020 and in 2023 – automation, in 2022 – import substitution. In 2021, there began to appear publications on the pandemic and unmanned technologies, and in 2023 – on artificial intelligence. Based on the calculation of the TF-IDF measure, it is concluded that there is greater similarity between the topics of publications in adjacent years than in non-adjacent ones. The results obtained can be used to plan the topics of research work.

Abstract

The topic of artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly attracting attention. The purpose of the article is to present the results of a bibliometric analysis of the document flow on this topic. For the study, various scientometric data from the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) for 2001–2023 are used. The analysis showed the following. In Russia the growth of document flow began in 2016. The most cited publications are both monographs and articles. The vast majority of names named in the ranking are young people who have published their first works in the year of getting into the rating or1-3 years before that, but the authors with the most citations are not those actively publishing. The authors, organizations and leading sources of information are named. The breadth of the topic AI indicates a transition from the general fundamentals and understanding of the topic to specific developments used in a certain field of activity, but the library aspect in AI is practically not developed. In recent years, there have been reports on AI that are reflected in collections of conference proceedings, but scientific articles can be found in the ranking for each year.
