In article theoretical aspects of history of military libraries in the Russian army are covered. Evolution of the main conceptual terms is presented and analyzed. The role of librarians (S. D. Maslovskij, A. R. Voynich-Syanozhetskij, A. S. Latsinskij) of the military department in developing some theoretical aspects of military library science is shown.

Characterized are the number and structure of library collections formed by the Poles in the settlements of Siberia in 2nd half of XIX - beginning of XXth century. Analyzed is information on availability of book collections in towns and settlements of Siberia. The conclusions on the reading specifics of Siberian Poles are made.

Considered are individual characteristics of electronic journals on pedagogy as an element of modern information resources of the educational process. Analyzed is the quantitative structure of the issues flow in the dynamics of its manifestation.

The article analyzes the reasons of turning Russian architects of the XIXth - beginning of the XXth century to the design of library buildings. It is shown that library becomes the object of creativity of the architects of different styles and schools. The prospect of using the biographical method for studying the personalities of library architects is proved. The importance of studying the library architecture in paper and realized ones is reasoned.

The subject of the article is automated systems worked out by the Library for Natural Sciences (LNS) specialists: the expert system of acquisition, the publications` ordering system supported by RFBR, virtual exhibitions. In all these systems, the user is provided with the access to bibliographic descriptions and electronic samples of editions` pages from LNS funds.

This article analyzes the dynamics of corporate cataloging development in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and describes the results of the research «Creating the cultural environment of the region on the basis of cultural institutions modernization and implementing information and communication technologies», conducted in 2012. Special attention is paid to information regions' readiness to transforming to information society, and in particular the substantial upgrading of libraries in the region, in most of which corporate cataloging is functioning. The paper presents statistics illustrating regulatory support of the branch informatization, financing, professional development of specialists. On the basis of the provision of the social communication theory - the number of channels increases, but none of them disappears - the following questions are considered: How to develop a library strategically? What the vector of development to choose, taking into account the variety of forecasts, communication and technological possibilities, publishers offers and expectations of the readers-users? From the positions of the succession of communication channels (i. e. libraries of different types), the ratio of their use, as well as redistribution of functions between them, demand for traditional and electronic libraries, perspective functions, directions and forms of work (or, if to use the terminology of marketing approach - the perspectives of their products and services) are projected.
